Many of my mortgage clients are military families just like my family! I polled military families for their top tips for being posted to major military bases across Canada.
Top 5 Tips for Posting to Kingston
- Some medical centres in the Greenwood Park community have reserved availability for military families. Check with them upon arrival and let them know you're a military family! Greenwood Park is also an excellent community to live as it's close to the base, however you may have to do your shopping near Gardeners Road (about a 15-20 min commute).
- The real estate market can get hot at times, especially for turn-key properties. Have a long list of properties to see on your HHT because your first few choices may go quickly. Be decisive, as you may need to act fast on a home you're interested in.
- Routes to the base can be limited, west of Kingston tends to be the best for commute time.
- Employment prospects for spouses can be limited, start the job search prior to arrival!
- PMQs can go quickly and tend to have a long wait time - put your name in early!
