Many of my clients are military families just like my family! I polled military families for their top tips for being posted to major military bases across Canada.

Top 5 Tips for Posting to Halifax or Shearwater

  1. Remember to factor in the bridge to your cost and commute time if taking the bridge between Halifax and Dartmouth for work. Do a test run during peak times to estimate your daily commute. If using public transit, research the bus systems and test it during your HHT to determine the best area to live.
  2. Consider communities on the outskirts such as Colby Village, Portland Estates, Timberlea, Bedford, Lower Sackville.
  3. Be mindful of high winded areas close to the ocean for potential exterior damage to your home or power outages.
  4. The pace in Nova Scotia can be slower than other bases, be patient!
  5. The ocean is a huge attraction and benefit, be sure to check out all of the local beaches - including Carter's Beach! A hidden gem.
